what does summer feel like?

do you remember? i know, i know, why on earth am i posting summer photos anyway when we’re almost in december?! well, exactly because of that! i’m deeply into the winter mode, i feel cold when i wake up, i don’t want to get out of the bed and i’m highly addicted to my hot water bottle. and i have a huge difficulty in picturing what hot days feel like. it’s like during winter i can’t imagine what hot feels like, neither during summer i can imagine being cold. so these are a few images i found this weekend, of my first day of summer vacations. it was such a precious day, just driving south stopping whenever i wanted to take pictures. that for a photographer and the fact that i was free of any pressures (hellooo summer vacations!) is heaven!

so now do you remember how summer feels like? we didn’t stay at this house/farm, this is where i picked mr twiggs, as he had stayed there for a few days. i loved the house of course! so good to relax! the swimming pool with all those trees around, the farm animals, the red doors and shades… it’s what summer should feel like for sure! see you tomorrow friends!

ps. have you seen the sale on both shops? everything you buy, you get in double!

simple things // hanging out with the film camera

so today, after pondering and pondering about my simple thing of this week, i though about one thing that i carry a lot – my film camera. i have been fortunate enough to be introduced to film when i was young, but i knew nothing about it. later (enter around 20 years later) i started being really interested in photography and suddenly i started to see a lot of film cameras and film photography as well. i was a fan of lomography and mr twiggs got me a lomo camera for our first christmas together. and a few months later i won an auction on ebay for a lovely yashica. and my love for film got even stronger. this summer i traveled with all my film cameras and i had a blast! unfortunately 120mm rolls are extremely expensive to develop so they are still waiting for better times. but these were a treat when i got them… summer vacations on film.

the last one is the only one taken in lisbon, it’s a close neighbourhood where i usually go with mr kobe for a walk. it’s really pretty with the huge houses and gardens. most of them are embassies, but you can find a lot of private houses as well. beautiful during summer with no doubt! the other ones were taken during my summer vacations in costa alentejana. oh i miss those days! summer in this side of the country is beautiful and absolutely relaxed, and let’s not forget that we can eat so well here! i loved the look of these images, i used kodak portra 160 and the overall mood is really summerish!

i also have a film photography blog, in case you want to go through more of my film photography! it’s not updated as much as this one (well, it hasn’t been updated since we moved actually), but for those who are interested in film and to know more about what others experience with different kinds of film and such, i think that is a nice place to visit! looking forward to see you there!

oh and one major news, i inherited from my in-laws two really vintage cameras, one is actually a video camera with 8mm film. i was thrilled when i got my hands on those beauties. they both belonged to mr twiggs grandpa when he was young. i’ll find some time to take photos of them to share with you!

so and how about you? are you into film cameras? let me know here!

simple things // sleeping under the trees

good friday every one! how are you doing? any nice plans for the weekend? we’ll be having a boat birthday party today and maybe some radical activities on sunday morning, but other than that, we wish we could just start moving to our new place! every day that goes by we start to feel anxious about the whole thing and all we can think of is our new home! and speaking of home, today i want to share my home during summer vacations. and because today we’re talking about simple things… sleeping under the trees is quite simple and i happen to love it. have you ever camped before?

i love to camp on this park, because it’s a very good one (they claim their 4 stars very well!), there is a lot of shade (you can see by the amount of trees on this image above), people are really friendly, it’s a quiet park, and food is very good. though we love to cook our own food, we try to save some days to go out to dinner and eat grilled fish and we ate breakfast on that table every single day. it tasted so good to get up early, feel all the quiet and silence in the park, the first rays of sun coming through the trees… and you need to agree with me, having breakfast with such a nice view is actually a simple thing, but quite a huge pleasure!

what were your simple things during this summer vacations?

it started like this

… i was standing on this beach ready to start my adventure! i am back after a week in alentejo, the seaside part of it! we camped in a fabulous camping park, we grilled fresh fish, delicious meat, we woke up really early, we visited several beaches, we caught a lot of sun, drank cold beer while watching the sun setting second by second, we went out for dinner, explored small villages… but it’s over now! i’m back with mr kobe (obviously we missed him terribly!), while mr twiggs is still enjoying his last days on the beach. i’ll be cooking some news, editing all the photos, preparing posts about the last weddings i shot, working on some projects for a few clients and in september i’ll be fully back! i won’t be blogging much these two next weeks, maybe a post here and there and then i’ll be closing up the blog for some redesign! have a great week and i just hope you’re enjoying your summer vacations as well!

note: this is a part of the august break, which means that i’ll be blogging on a lighter mode, no usual features, just pictures and a few words! remember that on the last week the blog will shut down for a new look! looking forward to it!
