até ao massachussets // all the way to massachussets

IMG_8716 IMG_8718 IMG_8719 IMG_8721

last week, it was a bit like this. two large prints traveled all the way to massachussets, in the united states. even though i’m not that fancy on my wrapping (and i still swoon over my pinterest board on wrapping), i like it simple, but sweet and pretty. a ribbon on the same colour of my logo, a fabric washi tape in a light pink stripe pattern, a thank you sticker, and last, but not least, a bit of rosemary, so that it smells good all the way until its destiny. and of course, inside another thank you note handwritten, sometimes a postcard inside an envelope, and another small print, as a sweet gesture. i like those who receive my prints, receive them as a gift, even if they were the ones ordering them for themselves.

and this is how they travel! the large prints at least, because a sturdy tube is needed so that no harm happens to them on their way to their new home.

and now they can also travel a lot more, as my etsy shop is celebrating three happy years! so when you buy a print from me, you receive another one chosen by you, entirely for free. i have already chosen a few of them to make my walls a bit happier, as they feel so depressed by being so empty. and how about your walls? feeling lonely as well?

two pictures + wishes of a happy sunday

just thought of dropping by to wish you a delightful sunday! yesterday was a very fulfilling day, but no details can be shared at this moment! one more day to go on this weekend, before a new week starts again! and i might share the feeling of someone (i could really use a new memory from time to time) that once said that a new week was another chance to start something new, and that is actually pretty exciting!

also exciting is to be able to appreciate simple things… i’ll appreciate green old doors with matching windows today! and if you love film photography, why not stop by my “redesigned” film photography blog? i wrote “redesigned” because not having my own domain + using a free template, customizing is not exactly the word for this blog, but when i created it, i wanted something extremely simple! and now i have wider images, which actually makes all the sense, as it is a photography blog! enjoy my adventures and if you’d like, you are always invited to share your own opinions & experiences regarding film photography.

ps. and this beautiful green door will soon be available on my etsy shop + society6 (where you can have other amazing products as iphone cases and laptop covers)

how much does one year of your work cost?

i don’t have the answer for your year, but i do have for my last year. so, here are the news. well, so far no news from the “doctor” where both laptop and hard drive are, i keep going there and they keep saying that they are running every program thee is in order to find or save some information, but still nothing has worked (lucky me!) and yesterday i was searching for any other possible solution on google (yes, that master of all things) and found a company here in portugal, that brought a little light to my heart and mind. after all, there was some chances! this company claimed to have 12 years of experience and in about 80% of the cases, data was recovered in less than 72h. thinking that all my work, from photos, to branding, to web-design projects, to photo sessions, to whatever i had on both hard drives, could actually be saved in such short amount of time did bring a smile to my face and hope to my heart. i almost wanted t go to bed earlier, so that the next day could come fast and maybe some good news as well!

and this morning, i couldn’t wait to call them and ask them discreetly how much such thing could cost. and let me also tell you that voices on the other side sometimes make you feel a bit fool. she sounded not portuguese and i thought “oh great!” (and this is not something against foreign people, it’s a whole different story) and after telling her the symptoms of the external hard drive to begin with, she started saying what may have caused that (whow! the woman knew what she was talking about!) and then she ended with this sentence “in these cases, data recovery may cost something between 1000€ and 1500€.”, i almost chocked silently, thanked her for the information and hung up the phone. and stood still on my desk thinking “could i spend that amount of money to get my work back?” well, the answer is a simple “no, i cannot, because i simply don’t have that amount of money!”, but if i had… would i? or would i just buy a new professional camera and start all over again… for the second time in one year?

what would you do if you were on my shoes?

stories from lisbon :: madragoa or my love for doors & windows

i think this might be a bit of a cliche for photographers, right? doors & windows? what can i say? lisbon is this city filled with typical corners and historical neighbourhoods, like most cities are. the historical corners will obviously differ from city to city, according to each city’s history, but as i started this adventure capturing lisbon’s corners and sharing my stories with you, i was amazed to discover that so much of this city is covered in vibrant colours! there are walls and walls covered in colourful tile, creating these interesting patterns that i will reproduce sometime in the future. doors are left untouched, showing signs of all the years exposed to the sun, the rain or the wind. old once white curtains are still showing in the windows, making a perfect detail for an imperfect story. last friday my wandering heart went to a quarter called madragoa, one of the most popular quarters in lisbon, located near the tagus river.

my journey began in my quarter taking the 15 tram and getting down in santos. from there i started going up the calçada ribeiro santos and then turning right towards the rua de santos-o-velho. from there i just wandered through the streets, taking pictures at the buildings, windows and colourful doors. looking and trying to capture every detail with my memory as well. i had heard so much about this quarter and i didn’t have any idea where it was until i was on the tram. as i had a pocket guide of this area, i decided to check this one in particular for the first time. and i was amazed at such beauty in these streets and the view over the river. this is what i love about living in this city, the amazing sun we have, which reflects perfectly on the white buildings and the river.

this quarter is one of the most typical and you can see that for its architecture. just like on my neighbourhood and others similar, buildings are not that tall and there are several similarities between them, as the architectural line was respected over the years, and whoever buys a house in these places, often ends to renovate whatever they feel like it, but the facade is kept. black lamps are also a frequent detail on the streets, as well as the tiled walls and colourful wooden doors and windows.

madragoa is also one of the most popular quarters in lisbon for the popular marches, which happen every year in lisbon’s city holiday. during the whole month of june, st. anthony is celebrated in every corner of this city and on the night before the holiday, the marches go down the main avenue (avenida da liberdade), competing with each other. there are always a few that remain the favourites year after year, and madragoa is one of those favourites, ending up often in 2nd or 3rd place. alfama is the big winner, with no doubt!

from where i started my journey, i went through lapa and ended up near the assembly, a much wider area with newer and taller buildings. some of the well-known colleges are here, mostly associated with economics and management. but my day wasn’t finished, not even close. from here i went to principe real, chiado and baixa, before i went back home. to wander around in lisbon you sure need one thing, to be prepared physically speaking, because it’s not for no reason that they call lisbon the city of the 7 hills! this is one day always going up and down the streets, so if you’re coming here, please be prepared! more to come next week! i have a full post on these beautiful yellow trams!

p.s. some of these images are for sale as fine art prints, write me an email if you want any of these!
