quem me segue pelo instagram e twitter, ter-se-á apercebido que passei o fim-de-semana em santarém. soube muito bem passar um fim-de-semana numa cidade que pouco conhecia, descansar, conhecer um hostel novo, comer bem, passear e apanhar sol. ainda que tenha havido muito esforço no sábado, ou não tivesse eu ido para fazer uma corrida de 10km, e trabalho no domingo com uma sessão de família bem doce! ainda assim foi um fim-de-semana muito bom! no sábado não foi possível tirar grandes fotografias pelos recantos da cidade, mas no domingo sim. andámos um pouco às voltas à procura de um restaurante para almoçarmos, mas sem grande sorte, acabámos por comer uma sopa da pedra… onde? onde? em almeirim, claro está! nem imaginam o quanto adoro esta sopa!
já agora uma pequena explicação relativamente ao título. hoje celebramos o 25 de abril e apesar de não ter vivido esse dia, é um dia bastante importante para mim. ainda hoje me sinto arrepiada com as músicas da época, com as filmagens daquele dia, com as gravações que se ouvem. foi uma grande revolução e sinto um enorme orgulho do meu país e das suas pessoas por se terem insurgido. durante a corrida de santarém, uma parte do percurso foi feito precisamente por dentro do quartel, acabando por passar pela porta de onde o salgueiro maia saiu no dia 25 de abril de 1974.

if you follow me on instagram or twitter, you probably realized i was away from lisbon this weekend. well we traveled to santarém, which is a lovely town an hour away from lisbon. we spent the weekend there, because we were going to participate on a running event that would take place in the historical part of this city, and the great thing about this was also the fact that the race was happening in the evening and they would give wine at the 6th km! who else offers wine to the runners? oh my, as soon as we heard about this, we jumped at the opportunity! i started running every day in and day out, and i was proud to finish the race without stopping for a single second, not even for that wine! yay for me! it was such a fun weekend! we stayed at this cute new hostel (soon there will be images), we explored restaurants, ate very well, and felt lucky for the summer-ish weather we had all weekend long!
sunday we had to drive to almeirim for lunch, and during the morning and that time in almeirim, i snapped a few details here and there. i loved what i found, the typical lamps, the flowers, the narrow streets, the old bikes… everything so cute, so vintage, so typical, so portuguese.
and now a quick note on the title of this post! for those who are not aware, today we celebrate a very important holiday in our country. on 25th april 1974 there was this major revolution called the carnation revolution, which conducted to the fall of the dictatorship back then. though i wasn’t born yet, i get chills whenever i listen to the musics which were so important for that day (a certain music on the radio was actually a sign for troops to march out towards lisbon for start the revolution), and i feel so proud of my country and its people for being able to say no to the dictatorship. as troops left from santarém, during the running race, we actually crossed the army headquarters and the door where they came out that morning. the music was on and soldiers were there while we ran through the door. it was a bit emotional!
