wednesday find :: mrs bertimus

hello lovely friends, how are you doing? to begin with today, i’d like to thank all of you who showed your support and shared your feedback with me, about this interview! it was so important for me, you have no idea! as i know i can write a little bit too much, i thought that maybe no one would have the patience to go through all those questions and long answers, but you did and not only you did, but also took the time to leave me your feedback, so thank you so much! one another thanking note, i’m not sure if you follow me on facebook, but once in a while, i ask for opinions on my designs and i’m always astonished about the kind of feedback i receive! this morning this was the print i was asking for feedback and it was good to see that my doubts were in vain, as most people liked the current design!

and now moving on to our topic of the day – mrs. bertimus! where should i begin? well, it was when i joined papernstitch family for a bit of advertising on my fine art photography shop (have you looked for the super discount code over on papernstitch?), that i ran into mrs bertimus shop. i was in love with all those vintage-like fabrics, cute illustrations of dogs and such a cozy mood all around the photos! have you ever met mrs. bertimus? (i happen to love the name as well!)

The Makings of Mrs Bertimus // Etsy Shop

so who is mrs. bertimus? i bet she’s such a kind lady! her real name is letitia thompson and i imagine her receiving guests over delicious hot tea and homemade cookies, having long conversations in a very british accent!

“hello chuck! i’m a part time fine art tutor, artist, maker of things and a full time mum. when i’m mrs bertimus i can enjoy playing with the little scrappettes of fabric, buttons, fripperies and fancies that i pick up on my (far too) frequent jaunts to the charity shops. my perfect day consists of copious amounts of tea and swizzles sweeties (especially the ‘mr.chews,’) a pile of freshly laundered charity treasures and screen prints to play with and a ‘murder she wrote’ re-run in the background. heaven!” (side note from the editor here – oh murder she wrote, i miss this so much!)

i never had a tea cozy before on my kitchen, but these are so lovely, that i just might not resist this christmas! and with a dog? of course i won’t resist! i also adore the fact that mrs. bertimus sounds just like a character letitia made up, that appears when she’s on her sewing machine with her pile of freshly laundered treasures! such a sweet story behind the business, don’t you think? i believe that stories like these are the true essence of etsy! and that is why etsy is such a great community of talented folks around the world! well, i leave you with enough juice to be curious about mrs. bertimus makings, so that you can run to her shop as well! you never know, you may find your first tea cozy, just like i did!

local markets :: caravana bazaar

hello good friends, how are you doing today? over here, it has been the usual with work and getting settled with so many new ideas for my shops! oh, before heading to out topic today, let me just thank you for the love and kindness in your comments to the latest wedding i published! it meant so much to me reading all of your appreciative words! and now let’s go to what brought me here today – local markets! can i just say that you should be prepared for such a dreamy place i’m about to show? for all the creative souls out there, you will love this for sure!

today our guest is filipa, the woman behind caravana bazaar, a business handmade with love and close to nature, really close! filipa works in a caravan beautifully arranged and parked in a delightful country field in alentejo. every detail seems to be perfectly coordinated, though it doesn’t look perfect, it looks lived instead.

what is caravana bazaar after all? filipa says this on her facebook page!

“com a mudança de “vida”, de cidade, de rotina e de paisagem, a caravana bazaar encontrou, finalmente, o seu sitio. numa herdade, no alentejo, à sombra de um sobreiro maravilhoso, a caravana bazaar tem o seu primeiro encontro com a arte de criar novas peças e com a arte de receber quem por aqui passar. uma mistura de panos, texturas, cheiros, sabores, lãs, madeiras, cordas , linhas… tudo se junta numa só criação ou em mil criações diferentes.”

“with the change of “life”, city, routines and landscape, caravana bazaar has finally found its place! on a country field in alentejo, parked under a beautiful tree, caravana bazaar has its first meeting within the art of creating new pieces and the art of welcoming whoever stops by. a mixture of fabrics, textures, smells, tastes, wools, woods, ropes… everything gets together on one piece or thousands of pieces!”

if you are a creative person, who does work by hand just like filipa, i bet you would love to create in such a place. the amazing fresh air she receives, the smells around, the inspiration that comes from all the nature around, and the details with which she decorated her place are truly inspiring for creatives. i just imagine going to work to such a beautiful and quiet place like this! well, right now i’m already thinking how am i going to convince mr twiggs to go to this place for a visit! i’d be in heaven if i could take pictures in such a beautiful place!

filipa writes on her blog about her creations, and if you get interested in something, you should definitely contact her for details! her pieces are absolutely charming and so inviting! they seem to come from our grandmother’s old trunk with a twist of modern design, by the way filipa mixes all those fabrics and textures together. this purse above is one of my favourites and perfect for fall!

so tell me, have you ever heard of caravana bazaar? what do you think of this?

wednesday find :: ooshki

you know that i don’t have kids, i think that so far we could only afford to own one dog, though a huge dog, mr kobe. therefore i don’t post much about kids, or anything related to kids, unless of course, like today, i find something that is sweet and cute, and all the things in between. and definitely i’d and i’ll post anything that i would buy for my own kids! and that is the case today, though i don’t think that if i ever get to be a mum, i’ll have girls. i always imagined myself as a mum of boys! i don’t think i’m programmed to have girls! and mind my ignorance if that’s the case, but i think that raising boys much be a little bit easier than girls! who knows, right? well, now getting to the point! today i have something girls would love! dolls! handmade crocheted dolls!

elena is the lady behind this beautiful shop named ooshki, which means “little ears” in russian. elena was already a guest here on the blog on the feature “at home away from home“, as she comes from ukraine and she is currently living in toronto, canada. elena is a fabulous photographer and i met her through flickr. i was amazed by the beautiful colours and the light she was able to capture. her photos always had this clean look, where everything is beautifully arranged and put together, almost like a magazine cover. flowers and old cups of tea were some of my favourite subjects from her photography. she also has an etsy shop, where you can actually buy some of her prettiest flower prints! and then it was with great enthusiasm that i found out elena had opened a second shop with something far distant from prints – handmade crocheted dolls.

the colours remain sweet and the details are precious. every doll has a name and some kind of sweet characteristic, like a handbag, a hat or even a beautiful black dress with a white collar. i also love the way the dolls stand on the photos, along with pretty details such as paper garlands and flowers!

you can find elena’s crocheted work on her shop, follow her daily stories on her blog, and as usual follow her on facebook, twitter and pinterest!

local markets :: marta costa studio

hello there, you amazing friends! first of all, i’d like to thank you for the loving messages that you all left to this post! it’s quite impressive to see that though i don’t know any of you personally, excepting miss lilly, you all seem to understand and to feel almost the same, though in such different business fields. and the thing is that yesterday when i was catching up with my reader after dinner, i found another post of another photographer i absolutely love and admire, stating feelings of self-doubt. it’s quite amazing to realize that the ones we admire so actually go through those same doubts and questions and have the courage to confess those. i believe that making things look perfect is not the way of doing things, though of course, i also believe that as a blogger i shouldn’t be whining and i should put myself together, within a dose of reality. as a blogger i also believe that i should be inspiring you at the same time i share the hard times as well, so that you (and me as well) feel that you’re not alone, because even in different paths, we all go through the same bumps! so enough with the chitchat, let’s go to the main topic of today – the local markets!

today’s post will be a surprise post to the artist, because i must admit that this lady has been leaving comments for quite a while and i don’t think i had clicked on her link before, or if i did, i didn’t quite see what i saw yesterday. because when i clicked in her link yesterday, the idea came to my head immediately “oh my goodness, these things are gorgeous, local markets now!!!” and the lady is marta costa! marta is a psychologist, just like me, but also a maker, and she makes the most adorable things with her hands, using bright colours, traditional techniques, with modern patterns. as soon as my eyes laid on her shop i was amazed by all of it!

tell me, isn’t this a really pretty overview of her shop? i fell for the colours and the bright photos! and i have chairs just like this one! marta talks about her brand on her website and says the following:

“marta costa studio is an handmade soul purpose business where i sell modern, stylish and sustainable textile creations for you and your home (mainly crochet & knits). as i try to balance my ecological footprint i wanted to help others do the same without loosing comfort, modernity or sophistication. i wanted to create cool and attractive products that had a positive impact in the environment!”

1. crocheted pillow

“from top to bottom of my business i try to use eco-friendly, natural, organic, recycled and vintage quality materials. i hope to grow to a future with 100% organic! and by choosing to purchase handmade you’re decreasing manufacturing energy and promoting ethical labor practices. besides making a real person happy, who can make a living being creative.”

marta also runs an etsy shop, but if you live in portugal you might find it easier to order from her shop. and as it is always nice to know a little bit more ab out those who are behind these gorgeous products, you can also follow her lovely blog, with a bright look, and her inspirations along the way! of course, marta knows the pwer of social networks, so she’s on facebook, twitter and pinterest!
