a {lovely} guest :: ishtar olivera

and as promised an interview with this nice lady called {ishtar olivera}. i met ishtar a few months later after i joined flickr later in 2009, but i honestly cannot remember when and if we met through someone else. but we probably did. what i know is that i instantly fell in love with her drawings… her delicate drawings. she even made me feel i could draw myself. well, i probably can’t, but i found myself trying to draw something almost 20 years later my last drawing. it was a hard battle, not finished yet, i must say. but looking through the world of ishtar, you almost believe you can do anything. because she makes you believe that everything is easy and attainable. you just need a little time and effort and you will do it! but who is ishtar?

“i’m an illustrator who loves all the beautiful things in life! arts and crafts, photography, sewing… reativity is my life!”

and now time for the little interview… that will help you to get to know more about this lady!

number :: 4
mmm… i was thinking of the number 4. it’s a number i simply like. my birthday is on april 4th (04/04)  so i have always liked it for that reason.

letter :: a is for amor (love)
i have always liked the letter {a}… i like its sound and in spanish the word {amor}, starts with an {a}. i think it’s a letter very melodical word.

my favourite time of the day is…
the mornings! just as the sun is rising! i tend  to wake up really early, around 6:30, so everyone in the house is still asleep. i love that quiet time for my self and how the lovely  sun arises and bathes my studio in fresh morning light… i love love love!

if i could choose a country to live, other than my own, i would choose…
anywhere with a beautiful countryside or natural spaces like mountains and forests.

if i had to choose a flavour from my childhood memories, i would choose…
lemony, lemon! being my father from mexico, i spent some of my childhood years there. lemon is a fruit they squeeze to almost everything and i loved it! i still do! so i would say it’s the most significant flavor memory of my childhood.

and what about indulgences? tell us about yours…
oh i have to say i have a “love affair” with masking tape! (or maybe it’s more of an obsession!!) i think the clue of it’s success strides not only in the beautiful patterns and colors, but in the possibilities of its many uses, allowing creativity to utterly emerge. so, every month i try to buy a few and expand my collection. masking tape is definitely my most loved indulgence!

when i chose that last question i have to be honest, but i was thinking about food! and ishtar broke that idea for me now… we can have other indulgences and i so understand her love (or obsession!) for masking tape! it is something that i can find myself going through and through shops of masking tape, also because of its colours and patterns! but as i was telling you ishtar is very talented, isn’t she? i love her sweet drawing of little girls in the wind, or furry bunnies in the nature… you can explore more of her talents on her {etsy shop} and {blog}. if i were you, and if you never heard of this lady, i would go to her blog immediately because she shares several tutorials that i find really interesting! i would go there, if i were you…

a {lovely} guest :: anabela carneiro

hello there my friends, how are you doing? oh my goodness, i am back and have so much to tell you! but i think i still need to settle down first (for which i need a few more days!) and then i will be back to share all the good news! the island where i spent the last 6 days was really amazing, totally relaxing and if it wasn’t for mr kobe i think we would go back again, but we missed him so much and he was so thrilled and excited to have us back with him! so, the news will be saved for later and now i will go on with our guest for today. i have told you about her before {here} and when i was thinking about having guests for this feature, i thought of her. i read her {blog} every time she writes and i love her style… her name is anabela and she lives in toronto. she does {beautiful things}… is all i need to say.

number :: 27
i was born on december 27, and i always feel like that number gives me good luck, even if it’s just in my head.

letter :: p
p and p for pony! “pony” is a word that i’ve always really liked (it’s very satisfying to say, because i like how it pops), so when we adopted a new kitten, i gave it to her as a name. the funny thing is that it suits her so well! she likes to gallop around our apartment so she really is like a little pony.

my favourite time of the day is…
my favourite time is dusk. it feels so magical when the light starts to turn to dark.

if i could choose a country to live, other than my own, i would choose…
in some ways i wouldn’t mind living in the united states – i always think that americans are lucky because they can live in any sort of climate possible within one country! i actually wouldn’t mind living in lisbon, though — it’s one of my favourite cities in the world, with so many beautiful beaches nearby, and i do have dual citizenship…

if i had to choose a flavour from my childhood memories, i would choose…
strawberry, especially in ice cream form. these days i only like real strawberry flavours, but i have a soft spot for artificial strawberry flavours too.

and about indulgences? tell us about yours…
lately i’ve bought a couple of tubes of nars lipstick. it feels so indulgent to spent that much money on a tube of lipstick, but it really gives me a lot of pleasure! my absolute favourite indulgence at the moment is an iced coffee from my local coffee shop on a hot day.

did you know anabela? do you read her {blog}? if you do not, i think you maybe should… to feel inspired and drawn into beautiful things. as you read anabela has portuguese family… therefore her love for lisbon. i think she was the one that inspired my love for cotton totes… and she also designs beautiful and simple ones like {these}. i hope you can also feel inspired by anabela… i am. (i think i even might try those lipsticks she talks about)!

a {lovely} guest :: carmen moreno

hello hello, how are you lovelies? i hope you are doing quite fine… we are reaching the end of the week so quickly… and we have a shorter week, because tomorrow is a national holiday around here, and for us that live in lisbon, next monday is also a city holiday. we celebrate this holiday is fabulous, because on the evening before everyone goes out to the streets to celebrate what we call “the saints”. it is st. anthony’s day and we have so many traditions for this day. we eat sardines… we dance to popular music… we wander with our friends among crowded and enthusiastic narrow streets, the most typical ones… poorer couples have the chance to get married on this day with the city hall sponsoring the party… so many things. it’s a feast! if you are thinking about coming, i would advise you to choose the date around june 13th! but other than parties, today i am having another guest that kindly accepted to be a guest… a {lovely} guest. she is a very talented photographer, like all the ones i invite… (ah, yes!). let’s see if you guess who she is…

her name is carmen moreno and she comes from caracas, venezuela. she creates amazing images and concepts through her lens… let’s know more about carmen. if you admire her work, i am pretty sure you will love reading this.

number 36… it is not easy to me talk about what stage of my life has been happier  because every moment of my life have unforgettable moments, full of happiness and sadness… the perfect portions of black and white and precisely those nuances that give the necessary brightness to feel fulfilled and satisfied with the person i am today. why 36? because it’s my current age, because is the point of my present life where i’m being more receptive to receive and flow with the universe.

letter: b {book}… it’s one of my passions: reading, to be immersed in a book and live the life of others through their conflicts, desires, loves and passions is an enriching way of feeding, not only the mind but the creativity and inspiration. it’s one of my tools to create photographic concepts, sometimes the wings that i use to take off my feet from the floor. there is nothing i enjoy more than the touch of a book… the smell of new paper and ink… i call it chicken soup for the soul.

you favourite moment of the day… morning, mostly when i lift the blinds and see the blue “caraqueño” sky cutting by the avila, everything is very fresh, grass, trees, the air is different.

if i could choose a country to live, other than my own, i would choose… buenos aires, argentina. i fell in love of this city: the people, the street, the atmosphere… i traveled twice and i always back crying, i don’t want me back to my home! buenos aires stoled my heart… i have not lost the hope of living the rest of my life there… and i made a petition to  the universe, now i just have to wait!

if i had to choose a flavor from my childhood memories, i would choose… my aunt and my grandmother made coconut candies that tasted like glory…! when i remember those time i can almost smell the coconut and sugar boiling.

and about indulgences? tell us about yours… a lot of little things that make me happy: i can talk about how good i feel the “brrr” {hum} of my kittens, how much  i enjoy walking barefoot. i am fascinated by how the leaves crunch under my feet, the softness of the skin of a baby, how i am able to disconnect from the world while i photograph or while i’m reading a good book, the smell of brewed coffee  or the perfume of the soil after the rain, the sound and movement of ocean waves hypnotize me, even a sunset can make me forget to blink.

i loved so many things about carmen… what she tells about reading books. i must confess that i don’t read that much. i should, i know i should. i think that you will only find me reading photography magazines… but she is so right. i remember the feeling of embracing the character’s lives and problems… feeling inspired, it is like shutting down the real world and dive into the book to live in a different world. she is also very talented with her camera and she is able to create different kinds of images… romantic, dreamy, focusing on nature… portraits… you can see more of her work on {flickr} and {website}.

a {lovely} guest :: jill bliss

hello hello! how are you feeling today my friends? the weekend is getting closer and closer, right? do you have any special plans for this weekend? we are going away, as usual! but next week will be rocking as we have a national holiday on friday and lisbon celebrates its city holiday on monday, so… huge weekend for us here in lisbon! and to celebrate that i am going away with mr twiggs and another couple, to an {island} near mr twiggs hometown, which most say that it is paradise close to home. finally 5 days will be spent on a place that it is said to be very very simple… simple like… “there is no lamps on the bedroom and lights are out on the island by midnight” simple! curious? i am! cannot wait! but moving on to our interview today! as you may have noticed on the title… jill bliss is our lovely guest today. let me tell you a story.

in 2007 i spent christmas in new york. i have someone there i consider my second family and they live close to new york. so, what happened was that while they worked, i was wandering through the streets of new york alone… feeling the city, taking all the time to go through the neighbourhoods i wanted to visit… stores… museums… and as i love notebooks, i fell in love with this one, as soon as i layed my eyes on it. and this was how i heard about jill bliss.

it was such a sweet feeling when i came across her online… because back in 2007 i was quite far from the blogging world. so, i invited jill a few weeks ago to be a guest here on this feature… and share with us some thoughts a little bit more personal.

number :: 5.
my life seems to be lived in distinct 5 year increments.

letter :: c
circle. i love the concept of it.

my favourite time of the day is… if i’ve had a good night’s sleep, my favorite time of day is first thing in the morning after my dog has woken me up because she’s “starving” and yet grudgingly submits to 10 more minutes of quiet while i wake up. if i’m exhausted or overwhelmed, bedtime is my favorite time of day!

if i could choose a country to live, other than my own, i would choose… that’s a toss between the netherlands (where my family is from), or japan. both cultures and places are very interesting to as potential outsider living in them.

if i had to choose a flavour from my childhood memories, i would choose… freshly ground peanut butter from the health food store my grandma would take me to. she’d let me press the button on the machine.

and about indulgences? tell us about yours… green jasmine tea, or any tea with pear essences, dark chocolate; spending an entire day with a good book or a good friend or on a good hike; artisan-made housewares, clothing or furniture.

jill bliss was such a nice guest here! i really loved that i was able to come across someone whose work i admired so much and actually bring her to this blog! so flattered! if you like these nature details… and if you are crazy about notebooks like i am, i strongly advise you to sneak-peek her {website}! see you in a bit!
