i’m not sure if you ever heard of the other main city in portugal, which is oporto. it’s a very different city from lisbon, and there is this strong feeling about this city for all those who live there and there are a lot of fans across the country as well. to be honest, i’ve never been there for leisure, always for working reasons and truth is i don’t feel comfortable in this city. i feel lost. i avoid driving there, and it’s the only place i can think of where i’m a bit scared of driving, because i feel… lost, i have no references whatsoever. and i don’t feel at home. lisbon makes me feel at home, makes me want to fill my lungs out of fresh air, i love the light, the architecture, the space… everything about lisbon makes me smile and i’m just in love.
oporto is different. but at the same time, i feel the charm. i understand why people are so in love with this city, why they stand by their city as much as they do. i feel the charm on the darker architecture, i love the river and the hills across it. the narrow streets, and the accent of those who are natives… they way they treat you just like a girl when you walk in a cafe. it’s nice, it’s charming.
this time i went again for working reasons, but it didn’t feel like work. it felt like a walk with these two! they took to some cool places and we just ended up by the river with a glorious sunset. i was so excited about that golden light reflecting everywhere. it was such an amazing day! i want to go back and feel the sweetness of being there relaxing. just to be there enjoying this city.
but at the same time, coming back to lisbon was very good and comforting.
